Park Orchards Lions connect Adairs to the Maroondah Men’s Shelter
The guest speaker at the Lions Club of Park Orchards February dinner meeting was Gitta Clayton, project co-ordinator for the Maroondah Men’s Shelter.
Gitta provided background on the formation of the men’s shelter as a project co-ordinated by 7 different churches within the local area. The project provides overnight accommodation, meals and hot showers to homeless men. The men are collected at a meeting point in Ringwood at 6:00pm every evening during winter and taken to a place where they get fed, a shower and a bed for the evening and are dropped back in Ringwood the following morning.
The program is run by volunteers. It provides the men with opportunity to communicate and network amongst themselves and with the volunteers who also provide counselling/ideas for them.
A key takeaway from Gitta’s presentation was that their homeless men do not want to go to rooming houses as they do not want to be in an environment where they are mixing with bad influencers.
The Park Orchards Lions through one of their connections, approached Adairs for support. Adairs had no hesitation in generously providing sufficient Manchester items including doonas and covers for all the bedding needs for the shelter for this coming winter at no cost.
Park Orchards Lions President, Trevor Street and Lion Willie Krolikowski were on hand at the delivery of the two pallets of Adairs manchester to Gitta Clayton, project co-ordinator.
With the approach of winter we can be absolutely assured that the guests will sleep comfortably and warmly due to the product supplied through Adairs’ generosity.
We are extremely grateful for the generosity shown by Adairs and we thank them for their support.
